Goals and Objectives:
PGY4 Neurosurgery – Clinical Year
Surgical expectations:
- complex adult spine surgery including thoracic open procedures and
- endoscopic spine procedures
- craniotomy with removal of brain tumors
- split the sylvan fissure with assistance
- craniotomy for aneurysm clipping and endovascular surgery
- routine angiography without assistance
- perform transsphenoidal endoscopic procedures
- management of shunt complications without assistance
- stereotactic procedures
- carotid endarterectomies
- Operative log maintenance
Clinical expectations:
- Inpatient care and call duties
- Neurosurgery History & Physical
- Ability to interpret lab tests, MRI, CT Scans, etc.
- Assist in patient management and discharge planning conferences
- Attend Journal Club
- Attend all chairman’s clinics while rotating at GW
- Participation at “All City Grand Rounds”
- Active participation at all teaching conferences
- Participation in lab surgical approach course
- Report quality project
- Simulated patient workshop
