Goals and Objectives:

PGY4 Neurosurgery – Clinical Year

Surgical expectations:

  • complex adult spine surgery including thoracic open procedures and
  • endoscopic spine procedures
  • craniotomy with removal of brain tumors
  • split the sylvan fissure with assistance
  • craniotomy for aneurysm clipping and endovascular surgery
  • routine angiography without assistance
  • perform transsphenoidal endoscopic procedures
  • management of shunt complications without assistance
  • stereotactic procedures
  • carotid endarterectomies
  • Operative log maintenance

Clinical expectations:

  • Inpatient care and call duties
  • Neurosurgery History & Physical  
  • Ability to interpret lab tests, MRI, CT Scans, etc. 
  • Assist in patient management and discharge planning conferences 
  • Attend Journal Club 
  • Attend all chairman’s clinics while rotating at GW
  • Participation at “All City Grand Rounds” 
  • Active participation at all teaching conferences
  • Participation in lab surgical approach course
  • Report quality project
  • Simulated patient workshop
