Goals and Objectives:

PGY6 Neurosurgery – Clinical Year

Surgical expectations:

  • perform all major intracranial and spine procedures with minimal assistance
  • Perform all functional neurosurgery procedures
  • independently perform craniotomy with removal of brain tumors
  • Independently split the sylvan fissure
  • craniotomy for aneurysm clipping and endovascular surgery
  • routine angiography without assistance with embolization of aneurysms
  • perform transsphenoidal endoscopic procedures
  • independently perform carotid endarterectomies
  • Operative log maintenance

Clinical expectations:

  • Responsible for running the in-patient service at Holy Cross Hospital 
  • Participation in lab surgical approach course
  • Attend Journal Club and all conferences
  • Participation at “All City Grand Rounds”
  • Lecture and assist in the evaluation of Medical Students
  • Operative residency cumulative data
  • Report quality project
  • Simulated patient workshop
  • The written part I  ABNS exam must be passed at 50th percentile
